We Kicked Kids’ Cancer Together!
The Great Cycle Challenge of 2019 is complete! With all the rain we’ve had, I was a little fearful I wouldn’t be able to meet my ride goal! As I finally have a little time to reflect on it, I can say that this year was better than last year in that I met both goals, and I did not allow the weather or my coyness get in the way of reaching them. I am also impressed with everyone that selflessly donated and supported me throughout the month of June. Any amount given, even if it was uplifting words, made a huge impact! Together, WE DID IT!
Many have asked me, “why?”. Especially since I don’t have kids. It’s simple. I have watched four of my friends loose parents/siblings/friends to cancer, and it is a terrible disease. Then, I found out about a colleague of mine that was struggling with her little one having to go through chemo therapy and felt compelled to do something. I did not know what to do at that time, until it suddenly appeared on my ads, and quickly filled out a registration form for this event.
In watching all those people battle through the devastating disease, I realized that no one should have to go through that, EVER, especially a child! I may not have all together, but I was given two legs that can ride for miles, and miles I will ride. Even if it means just planting the seed, or barely making a dent. It is 100% worth it, because every life lost to cancer and every life fought for due to cancer is worth it! Plus, I get to do something I love while doing this challenge, which is spend time outdoors while biking! Thanks for staying tuned! And, if you were worried, don’t, I will continue to ride my bike until the next event…. which I think I know what it will, more on that later!
