My initial thoughts after seeing the video and the following article; Minneapolis Protests
I wish I could take the pain of the family who is left with a broken heart. I am deeply sorry for their loss. Our system is so broken, we need solutions ASAP!
The video is unbearable to watch, but what’s even more unbearable is that without the video, this murder crime wouldn’t have received the actions it deserves.
- No man, no woman, no teen, no child should ever be told they should’ve acted differently just because of the color of their skin.
- No man, no woman, no teen, no child should ever be told they shouldn’t/should do certain things to keep themselves safe from being wrongfully murdered.
- No man, no woman, no teen, no child should ever be told to not wear certain clothes to make them more approachable.
- No man, no woman, no teen, no child should ever feel like they need to have their death recorded for people to believe that they were innocent.
All these things are only to make people feel more comfortable and less intimidated. This is NOT ok. Dear friends, check your privilege, and do better.
I know not every officer is the same, I know not every circumstance is the same. I trust in many of our community officers because I work alongside them, and am friends with them. Many are strong, caring people just trying to protect their community. If you’re one of these officers reading this, please continue to protect your community, and advocate for those who need you; the black/brown community.
